About Me
Xinyi Ma is a flutist from China, currently located in Seattle, Washington. She is pursuing a DMA degree in flute performance at the University of Washington, under the guidance of Dr. Donna Shin. She completed a master’s degree in flute performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she was awarded a graduation tuition scholarship and an artistic excellence award. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in flute performance from the China Conservatory of Music, under the guidance of Dr. Zhaorong Chen.
Xinyi has extensive experience in orchestras and chamber music throughout the United States and China. Currently, she serves as the principal flute of the University of Wahington Symphony Orchestra and wind ensemble. Xinyi previously held the position of flutist in the Philharmonic Orchestra and Wind Ensemble at the Jacobs School of Music. During her studies in China, she performed as principal flute in the China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, China Youth Philharmonic Wind Ensemble and Henan Symphony Orchestra, accumulating solid collaborative performance skills.
Xinyi spent her summer at Miami Beach Classical Music Festival, Flute Mastery Intensive, The 2nd Singapore Flute Art Festival, Qingdao Shi Nan International Music Festival, and the 44th Annual National Flute Associate Convention. In addition, she won the second prize in The Tenth International Competition Festival JSFEST 2022 and the second place in the 2nd Singapore International Flute Competition.
Xinyi is also dedicated to the field of music education. Currently, she has her own flute studio in Seattle area and she serves as a teaching assistant at the University of Washington and has extensive experience in teaching the flute at multiple music schools and primary and secondary school orchestras in Beijing and Zhengzhou.
